# Models and agents

Upseam has no model of its own. A fix pull request is written by a model you
connect and pay for, or by your own coding agent. Simple fixes need neither.

:::cards Choose who writes the fixes

- [Connect a model](models.md)
Your key, stored encrypted with Upseam or kept in your GitHub Actions secrets.
- [Simple fixes without a model](simple-fixes.md)
A retired model id is replaced with the vendor's named replacement.
- [Bring your own agent](own-agent.md)
Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Hermes Agent or OpenClaw write the fixes in your Actions.
- [Set up with a coding agent](agent-setup.md)
One line for your coding agent prepares the repository and asks before changing anything.

## Before you connect anything

Until a model or an agent is connected, Upseam writes no fixes except simple
fixes. It still lists what it would fix in the dashboard issue. See
[Without a model](models.md#without-a-model).

## What the model sees

The model receives only the change data and the files with matches, and
answers with whole files. Deterministic gates check the answer before
anything is pushed. See the [security model](security.md#patch-gates).
